Latest UK M&A Stats for Q2-26

The UK Office for National Statistics have just released their latest statistics for Q2-26. Below is the update on Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) involving UK companies for Q2 2026, during the period April to June 2026.

Please note that these include only transactions that result in a change of ultimate control of the target company and have a value of £1M or more. Also numbers are provisional and may be subject to revisions in either direction, but are more likely to be upwards than downwards.

Headline Statistics for UK M&A Q2-26

Total M&A for Q2-26 was 353, compared with 407 Q1-26, falling sharply between APR-26 (139) and MAY-26 (102) then slightly increasing in JUN-26 to 112.

Comparing Previous Quarter Q1-26

Value of inward M&A was £25.4Bn during Q2-26, £9.7Bn higher than in Q1-26, £15.7Bn.

Value of domestic M&A was £4.52Bn in Q2-26, £2.4Bn higher than in Q1-26 £1.8Bn.

Value of outward M&A was £2.7Bn during Q2-26, £1.4Bn less than in Q1-26, £3.0Bn.

Figure shows value UK M&A fell sharply between APR-26 and MAY-26 and value ranged from £4Bn to £33.0Bn between Q2-22 and Q2-26.

Inward monthly M&A saw 61 acquisitions in APR-26, falling to 45 during MAY-26 and then rising to 56 in JUN-26.

Domestic monthly M&A saw 55 transactions in APR-26, falling slightly to 36 during MAY-26 then increasing to 39 in JUN-26.

Outward monthly M&A saw 23 transactions in APR-26, decreasing to 21 in MAY and further to 17 in JUN-26.

The Bank of England’s JUN-26 Agents summary of business conditions reported that:

Investment intentions have become more subdued since the Iran conflict and are now broadly flat for the coming year, with higher uncertainty and financing conditions continuing to weigh on contacts’ willingness to commit to new projects

Value inward UK M&A in Q2-26 was £25.4Bn, an increase of £9.7Bn from previous quarter (Q1-26 was 15.7Bn) and £15.7Bn more than Q2-26 (£9.7Bn).

Value of inward UK M&A increased to £25.4Bn in Q2-26.

Value of inward UK M&A between Q2-22 and Q2-26 ranged from £4.0Bn to £33.0Bn.

Number Inward UK M&A Q2-26

Inward UK M&A transactions in Q2-26 were 162, 21 less than previous quarter (Q1-26 183) & 41 less than Q2-26 (203).

Total number of inward M&A acquisitions between Q2-22 and Q2-26 ranged from 149 to 244.

Domestic UK M&A Q1-26

Value Domestic UK M&A Q2-26

Value of domestic UK M&A in Q2-26 was £4.2Bn, an increase of £2.4Bn from Q1-26 (£1.8Bn) and £0.8Bn more than Q2-25 (£3.4Bn).

A notable domestic UK M&A transaction that completed in Q2-26 was:

• Severn Power Ltd acquired by Centrica PLC both of the UK.

Value of domestic UK M&A increased significantly to £4.2Bn in Q2-26.

Value of domestic M&A between Q12-22 and Q2-26 ranged from £1.8Bn to £7.6Bn.

Number Domestic UK M&A Q2-26

Domestic monthly UK M&A was 130 transactions for Q2-26, 12 less than for previous quarter (Q1-26 167) and 111 less than in Q2-25 (241).

Total number of domestic UK M&A fell to 130 transactions.

Total number of domestic UK M&A between Q2-22 and Q2-26 ranged from 130 to 263.

Outward UK M&A Q2-26

Value £Bn Outward UK M&A Q2-26

Value of outward M&A in Q2-26 was £2.7Bn, an decrease of £1.7Bn from Q1-26 (£4.1Bn) and £0.9Bn lower than Q2-26 (£3.6Bn).

Value of outward M&A between Q2-22 and Q2-26 ranged from £1.8Bn to £10.1Bn.

Number Outward UK M&A Q2-26

There were 61 outward acquisitions in Q2-26, 21 less than for previous quarter (Q1-26 82) and 23 fewer than Q2-25 (84).

Total number of outward UK M&A between Q2-22 and Q2-26 ranged from 61 to 86 transactions.
